Monopoly Big Event

Unless you were from a family who detested board games, you probably have played a game or 500 of Monopoly in your lifetime. The timeless classic celebrates its 80th birthday this year, so when better to release a couple of new online slots based on the legendary game of greed, wealth and landing on 'Go to Jail’? Let's take a closer look at whether Barcrest’s new Monopoly Big Event is as big as the leading developer hopes.

JUST PARKING
The online slots world moves so fast, and it's hard to keep up sometimes. First, WMS was acquired by Scientific Games, and new slots carry the Scientific Games banner. However, both giants Bally and Barcrest fall under the SG banner also. To confuse things further, WMS acquired the Monopoly brand not long ago, and that's why we’re seeing not one, but two, big new Monopoly-themed releases coming onto the lobbies of the best casinos on the web. So, if you've enjoyed some of the great Monopoly-themed games in the past few years, you should get a kick out of Big Event.

ROLLING THE DICE
If you're familiar with the classic family favourite Monopoly board game from Hasbro, you'll recognise the images in the game. The lead car, cat, dog and boat playing pieces are featured as symbols, as well as the banker (paying 2000 coins if you hit five on a payline) and recognisable 10-to-Ace icons. The WILD substitutes for all regular symbols other than the BIG MONOPOLY EVENT Scatter and the 'In Jail' bonus symbol. But more of those later.

THE 'BIG BET'
There are two ways to bet in MONOPOLY Big Event. The standard betting is at whatever stake you choose, but you'll see the 'Big Bet' button on the right of the screen. Hit that and you'll have two further choices at a higher stake: a Progressive Multiplier or a Bonus Wheel game. If you're betting 20.00, you can opt for the Multiplier. A progressive win multiplier is applied to every win over five spins and progresses from 1x to 5x. For a 30.00 spin, you'll have the chance to hit the Bonus Wheel and have a chance of hitting a Progressive Multiplier, a 'Persisting Wild' which locks in place a 'Big Event' Wild symbol on the reels for the duration of five spins. Finally, the 'Epic Spins' spot applies a 5x multiplier to your next five spins.

BONUS FEATURES
Hit three of those Big Event bonus icons on Reels 1, 3 and 5, and you'll trigger the 'Big Event' game. Pick a Community Chest card to reveal your Guaranteed Wins for the free spins round to come. Then pick a Chance card to reveal the number of free spins. Keep picking cards to add spins, Dancing Wilds and Locked Wilds to your spins before taking off to the game screen. While tricky to trigger, the bonus feature did give out some impressive spins. We hit 10+ free spins with 5 guaranteed wins and several Locked and Dancing Wilds. Locked Wilds stay in place for the duration of the bonus round, while Dancing Wilds turn an entire reel Wild.

Watch out, though: during the bonus feature, if you hit ‘In Jail' icons, the lowest-paying symbols on view will be removed from the reels for the duration of your free spins.

Finally, at the end of your free spins round, if you have any guaranteed wins the reels will spin to reveal multipliers on your prize total.

It's worth noting that if you trigger the bonus round with any stacked bonus symbols on Reel 5 you'll have a chance to ‘sneak preview' some of the cards to find those valuable houses and hotels which can guarantee wins.

TOP TIPS
• Play the BIG BET at 30.00 to increase your chances of winning the big bucks

• During the sneak preview, pick two of the revealed house icons, then pick a random symbol other than a house

• During the sneak preview for hotels, pick two of the revealed hotels, then keep picking until two dice and two house symbols are revealed. Finish off by picking a hotel symbol.
